About
Unleash Your Inner Artist!™ with ArtJamz – the most creative way to spend a night out with good friends and potential new ones. We supply the art materials, beer and wine – you supply the vision.
Tired of the same ol’ night out – dinner, movie or $15 drinks on U or K Street? Do you like the creative scene – hitting an art opening, seeing a live show, going to the theatre – but you want to get your hands dirty and create too? Do you find it hard to meet people in these structured environments? Welp, ArtJamz is for you.
What Happens at ArtJamz?
Each ArtJammer registers online to select an upcoming ArtJamz session. The night of ArtJamz, you receive a canvas on an easel, unlimited acrylic paints, brushes and art materials, and you get three hours to create an original work of art, which is yours to take home. Wine, beer and soft drinks, hors d’œuvres, great music, and artsy ArtJamz hosts (not to mention your fellow intrepid Artjammers) will keep the creative juices flowing even in the most uncreative of souls.
We Like to Pop Up!
We’re like the circus, we like to roam the metro area and find cool spaces to pop-up and get our jamz on. Since launching, we’ve held sessions at The Corcoran Gallery of Art, The Smithsonian American Art Museum Kogod Courtyard, Lamont Bishop Gallery, Long View Gallery, an empty retail spaces in Crystal City and Dupont Circle, a mansion in Georgetown, Cafe Asia, the Gibson Guitar Showroom, The Loree Grand, Montserrat House, Fathom Gallery, The Dunes, Lincoln Restaurant, Tysons Galleria, Bloomingdales, and many other unexpected and cool places.
We Don’t Tell You What to Paint
There are no “everyone paint a sail boat!” nights at ArtJamz. We feel that we all have enough structure in our lives and we don’t need someone telling us what to paint. We want you to take a journey, get lost and eat, drink and create. However, our team of ArtJamz Creative Enablers are always on-hand to provide tips, guidance and advice on how to achieve your vision, from which brush to use and how to mix paint and to use drafting tape and markers to how you get all Jackson Pollock on your canvas.
How in the Heck Did This Start?
ArtJamz was launched in June 2010 by Michael M. Clements as a production of Genki Media™ LLC, a company dedicated to incubating creative enterprises in the Washington D.C. metro area. The ah-ah moment came when Clements was up late one night painting, drinking and hanging out with a group of friends instead of going out. He half jokingly said, “Wouldn’t this be great if we could do this at a bar?” The rest they say, is history …
